The idea behind the word–casting off or shedding of something–is one I enjoy. I often give it a human meaning; the trial and error process that can result in personal growth. The hindrances we confront, hopefully learn from, and move past is similar to exfoliating an unneeded layer.
I also find it particularly beautiful when a snake sheds its skin. It’s like the motion of the aforementioned concept.
